Dr Michael Parkes
Dr. Michael Parkes is a researcher and engineer who holds the role of EV Innovation and Lab Manager within the Shell Global Network Engineering team. Within this role, Michael is responsible for coordinating Shell’s EV charging infrastructure R&D and hardware innovation. Prior to joining Shell in 2015, Michael completed his undergraduate and PhD studies at Imperial College, London, and has published several academic papers focused on energy, electrochemistry, fuels, and batteries, including studies on lithium-ion battery fast charging, immersion cooling for batteries, and the design of fuel cell systems.
Since joining Shell, Michael has held several roles across both R&D and Engineering functions whilst enjoying assignments in both London and Hamburg. Michael has been supporting the engineering roll-out of Shell Recharge since 2017 and has been involved in many of Shell’s acquisitions in the EV sector as well as supporting Shell’s markets globally.
